After the New Year has past in the K-On! universe, the girls are now starting their second year of High School. Time sure does pass quickly in this anime, and by now it seems that these girls have known eachother all their lives, even though they only met 7 episodes ago.
Of course, a new school year  also means that the school gets an influx of new first-years, including Yui’s sister Ui. Desperate for new members, the girls wonder if any of the freshmen will join the Light Music Club.

Whilst 3/4 of the Light Music Club were lucky enough to end up in the same class this time, Mio is sadly all alone. Poor girl. Luckily for her, Yui’s friend Nodoka ended up in that class as well so she at least has somebody that she knows. I’m wondering if Nodoka’s going to do a little more…I still cant really figure out her personality. Does she even have one…?

The girls decide they need to raise awareness for their club, and Sawako-sensei’s solution is, as always, to cosplay. However, her costume choice this time has completely the opposite effect and succeeds in making more and more people not want anything to do with the club by scaring them. I dont know about everyone else, but I’m still not sick of Sawako dressing the girls up. It’s always good for a laugh, and this segment especially.

Fursuits always scared me. For so many reasons.

Personally I think the cat's face is the most terrifying.

Of course, nobody ends up coming to the music room to check out the club after that, except for the sympathetic Ui who tries to at least get some friends of hers to join. With the failure of the animal costumes, Sawako decides the girls would look better as maids. It’s blatant fan-pandering by now, but as someone being pandered to, I dont mind at all.

I mean, look at how adorable this is.

The girls decide to put on a performance for Ui and her friend to show off their skills, but because the maid outfits are hard to perform in, they switch to tracksuits. (where do all these clothes keep coming from? Does Sawako have some kind of bottomless suitcase?) Ritsu manages to get some fooling around in, which made me laugh again. I also love how Mugi pretty much goes along with their silliness without any qualms. Poor Mio really does have her hands full with this lot.

However, their mini-performance doesnt seem to go to well, and Ui’s friend seems unimpressed. At home, however, Ui seems pretty happy about getting to see what her sister gets up to during the day. She notes that Yui is much more outgoing than she used to be, when she was a total lazy blob. (some things, however, dont change) Yui’s lazy stupidness, in my eyes, really does make her some kind of alternate universe genderbent Italy (from Hetalia) to me.  I’m still amused over Yui being the older one, even if it is only by a year.

I am positive that if Yui were male she would be Italy.

The Light Music Club does however have another chance of impressing the newbies by performing as part of the entrance ceremony for the new students. Although they wont be in costume this time, Mio still refuses to sing because of what happened last time, but now that Yui’s voice is fine again, she can actually do the vocals like she was supposed to the first time around.

Although its only the second time, I love it when the girls perform. It really is fun to watch, and this time, we get to see them. The faux-PV last time was neat and all, but it was definitley nice seeing the girls actually doing their thing. In true Yui fashion, Yui forgets the lyrics so Mio starts singing first, but as soon as she remembers them Yui joins in. I really loved this; the girls sound great singing together. The lyrics are, of course, Mio-strange (“My Love is a Stapler?” Wtf, Mio?) but as usual, the song was alot of fun. It did sound a little similar to the last song, so I hope we can get more variety in future. (Which reminds me, I said in my post for episode 6 that ‘FuwaFuwa Time’ ought to be a single as it would sell really well. It did become a single, and it did sell well. Who’da thunk it?)

The performance manages to touch quite a few people, judging from all the cheering that went on. And yet, nobody comes to the music room afterwards. What gives? However, eventually somebody does come, and they’re joining!

Like all K-On episodes, this was alot of fun. After the little break in episode 7 it was nice to have a return to actual musical activities. For an episode soley to set up the introduction of the new member, it was pretty substantial, if not just for another lovely performance by the Light Music Club. After having already seen that happen for the first time, though, it was harder to get blown away, so out of 5:
