Hataraku Maou-sama/The Devil is a Part-timer! Episode 10

In which Urushihara is actually five years old.

Sadao gets sent over to another MgRonald’s branch near Fushima Park in order to help out there as a fair is opening that day.  Chiho plans to visit him and so brings along Emi, with Suzuno tagging along.  Sadao learns from Urushihara that a haunted house attraction is also being opened that day, so Sadao and Ashiya intend to go there to harvest magic.  Unfortunately, the next day, Ashiya falls sick of a stomachache due to eating too much udon the night before.

I expected this joke but… Still a bit disappointed they went for such cheap humor. Luckily they don’t keep bringing it up after this one scene.
Don’t worry Suzuno, I can’t handle haunted houses either.

At Fushima Park, the girls end up just spending the day having fun.  And all is good and well until a monkey from a nearby circus unleashes some crocodiles from a nearby reptile museum, causing crocs to swarm the public pool.  Sadao is able to absorb some magical power from peoples’ fear as a result of this commotion, though he immediately uses it all in order to calm the crocs.

It’s so rare for Suzuno to have such extreme expressions so I had to cap this.
Sadao is displeased.

As Suzuno and Chiho return to their respective homes at the end of the day, Suzuno sees a strange man wearing a cloak sprout wings, right before disappearing mere moments later.

My Opinion:

This was a really fun episode.  Not much plot happened, but I can forgive that since all the character interactions were so great.  It also seems more and more that Sadao is taking a backseat in these episodes, which I don’t mind; but I do hope we see him in a more prominent role again soon.  He is the main character after all.

Emi’s, Chiho’s, and Suzuno’s interactions took up most of the episode as they went about enjoying themselves on their day off.  They all make a surprisingly good trio.  All of their conversations seemed natural, and their personalities bounce off of each other well, making for good comedy.  It’s really nice that Emi and Chiho and particular have become such good friends.  Although Suzuno’s still a bit of an outsider, at least she seems to be fitting in well too.  Ashiya and Urushihara also had some pretty funny interactions with each other, which was amusing to watch.

The girls were in bathing suits for most of the episode so obviously there was SOME fanservice.  Thankfully not too much after the girls first donned their bikinis.

Overall, this was an enjoyable episode that focuses more on the girls of the cast than the guys (though it seems like that lately anyway).  Suzuno ends up witnessing two shocking events today (Sadao being selfless and a man with wings) so it should be a sign that things will pick up soon… maybe even within the next episode!

Out of five for this episode:

Poor Ashiya, though…

The double-burger scenes may have been cheap humour, but I still thought they were funny. My favourite part of the episode was the haunted house. I really didn’t think they would have anything that scary in there, it even frightened me a bit when the “little girl” turned around.
