A First Impression: Saikin Imouto No Yousu Ga Chotto Okashiinda

Alright!  Time to start off the new anime season the only way we at Moeronpan know how to—by reviewing terrible anime of the new season!

Biggest understatement of the year.

A high school girl named Mitsuki gains a new step-brother named Yuuya after both their parents re-marry.  Although Mitsuki has trouble warming up to her new brother, she soon faces bigger problems.  A rouge spirit named Hiyori possesses Mitsuki one day in order to get closer to Yuuya.  This ends up putting a chastity belt onto Mitsuki, and now Mituski and Hiyori are forced to share the same body together, until the requirements are met in order to send Hiyori to heaven.

Yuuya’s design is really bland but at least he seems like a pretty decent male character.
You can’t see it, but I am rolling my eyes super hard right now.

My Opinion:

You know what?  When the episode first started, I actually had some hope for this series.  Because despite the cringe-worthy “accidental walk-in scene” at the beginning, Mitsuki and Yuuya’s relationship was treated pretty decently.  Their parents just got re-married and they finally all moved in together to live as a family; so there is obviously some awkwardness between the two kids.  Mitsuki’s reaction is totally believable; and fortunately, Yuuya is probably the nicest, least perverted older brother character we’ve had in a long time.

BUT THEN HIYORI CAME IN AROUND THE HALF-WAY POINT AND RUINED EVERYTHING.  Seriously, fuck that ghost.  Not only does she force a really uncomfortable scene between Mitsuki and Yuuya, she also ends up molesting Mitsuki because… because she can I guess?  And it is all played for laughs despite being fucking creepy and skeevy as hell.  BECAUSE GIRL ON GIRL RAPE IS SO FUNNY AMIRITE?!?  Ugh.

If that wasn’t bad enough, Hiyori’s possession also causes a chastity belt to appear on Mituski because… I honestly have no idea.  Based on the way it works, I’m assuming that it needs to “activated” in some way in order to allow Hiyori to pass on (based on the anime summary), but jfc.  It is a really unnecessary addition on top of all this other bullshit and as a result just made the last ten minutes of this anime feel like swallowing needles.

As if its plot wasn’t completely shit, the animation for this series is pretty bad too.  The art style is really wonky—the characters pretty much only look good head-on.  From any other angle they all just look weird.

Overall… I’m just really sad.  Yuuya and Mitsuki are decent characters, and this actually had the potential to be a pretty good anime exploring the relationship between two step-siblings.  But noooooo we had to add in a stupid perverted ghost and chastity belt bullshit to appeal to creepy otaku, I guess.  So now all we get is this really creepy, really awful anime.

Out of five:

“Is one terrible character enough to make an anime shit”

Yes. Yes it fucking is.

Too bad she’s already dead because I want her to die and a horrible, horrible fire. Also how the fuck is someone as awful as her allowed into heaven?

You know, the Required Bullshit Incest Anime usually has the most modern moe art style of the time but this looks almost retro. That last screenshot especially looks like an anime from 2003. Or maybe its just that the animation looks bad.
