A double review again this week as I was on vacation in Tasmania. We left off with quite the pickle on our hands, so lets see how it pans out in episodes 8 and 9!

Nike you go girl - slice off that dicks hair.

Nike you go girl – slice off that dicks hair.

Well we’re definitely off to a good start. Livi gets exactly what he deserves – his hair sliced off and thrown off the bed via a pillow.  Serves him right for being a prick, though, I admit I agree with him that at least THIS time he’s trying to fix what he did wrong, and admitting he ‘said and did too much’. Good shota king.

God you two are dumb sometimes

We eventually get to the heart of the matter – what happened between Livius and Bard that caused him to explode? And in their spousal, as usual, Nike gets to point that out and ask the questions that Livi doesn’t want to answer.

Precisely, Nike.

Precisely, Nike.

Once she escapes from her room, Nike goes to find Bard and break him out of prison. It is then they’re able to talk privately. It is revealed that he was in fact in love with Livi’s mother. The moon apparently reminds him of her, and after Nike covers it, the conversation becomes more serious. Bard’s actions served to ‘check Nike out’ to see if she was worthy of being the king’s wife or not. Bard couldn’t deal with Livi’s changes upon his mother’s assassination and taking over the world. Bard gives Nike his blessing.

The rest of the episode is spent with Nike forcing Livi and Bard to forgive one another, and speak. Nike makes it rain to trap the two in a gazebo outside, the pouring rain preventing them from escaping. (Gotta admit, I’m getting sick of the Tender Rain song, ugh) It highlighted Bard’s inability to handle Livius’ bad temperament and that he was basically unable to accept Bard’s leaving. Understandable too when he basically got scared and ran when Livi needed him the most.

Finding Nike after having sung for an hour, well, she was just glad to know her plan had worked. Bard is re-instated as Prime Minister, and Livi asks him to stay. And with that, their friendship is restored.

Overall, I’m quite pleased with how this episode turned out. We got a good look into both Livi and Bard’s past, and the relationship between Livi and Nike is growing at a better pace than originally. She still hasn’t thrown away her badass fire, the part of her I like, and is willing to teach Livi a good lesson or two when he rightly deserves it. There is nothing that pleases me more than seeing an anime waifu stand up to her man, as it happens just too rarely.

The ending ends with a more playful fight between the two men over Nike, and the episode ends on a high note with the group… and an ominous sign for the future.

The next episode brings a time skip of three months having passed with Nike being at the Sun Kingdom. The episode starts with a meeting for a trade agreement, but upon being exhausted by the amount of meetings, Livi is the one to suggest a vacation after its all over. The development of characters and relationships in this series might be fast paced, indeed, but I did really like seeing that positive change. For once, Livius is choosing to have a good time with Nike, just the two of them.

The opening sequence now includes Bard in it, as well as a slight change with the war scene then flashing to a pan up of Bard and Livi together, which I found to be a nice touch. I like how it’s constantly changing to reflect the mood of the episode.

As Mr. Butler makes sure Nike is more than prepared for the opening on the international stage, she receives an urgent letter from her homeland. Choosing to hide the letter for now, the opening ceremony begins with a chorus of Tender Rain, much to the audience’s delight (I will never get over their fascination with being voluntarily rained on – that’s gotta mess up your makeup and hair man O-o ) but like the good husband he is becoming, Livius notices something off with Nike’s singing straight away, and while brash to point it out, he gets Nike to fess up to the fact that her Grandmother is sick.

Deciding to make their ‘holiday’ to the Rain nation, Livi makes preparations, much to Nike’s shock and delight. After sticking some responsibility onto Bard, the dynamic duo take off. Livi asks why Nike didn’t tell him about the letter, and she just says she didn’t want him to make a fuss, and remarking that that is what a husband is for. Good to know you’re being a good shota husband, shota.

Indeed.

We learn that the Rain nation is actually legendary – having supposedly defeated three countries in three nights with their powers. But the laid back nature of the place certainly doesn’t show it, though it wouldn’t surprise me if it was true.

As I suspected, the letter is a ruse for Grandma to meet her granddaughter’s husbando. Though I can only assume she’s a lot more powerful than she appears.

Ho oooh....

Ho oooh….

The sisters, however, of Nike, amused the hell out of me this week. Their reaction to the shota is only made more amusing by the fact that they ignore that he’s essentially the ruler of the known world and could blow up their country and just drag him off for photos.

Gotta admit, if I were king of the world I'd have the same feelings.

The newest big bad arrives on the scene too in what I can only deduce is a former suitor, but we’ll get to him later.

Livi has a good rant about being forced to play dressup, and the crew complaining of sickness from the lower air pressure, they retire for the evening to get some rest.

The Rain peeps show off another of their unique powers – cloud scattering; the reverse of summoning rain, in order for Livi to enjoy his stay. Nike cooks for Livi, and he remarks his surprise that she can cook. The rest of the scene is actually rather sweet, and I like the fact that there’s a more slower progression of their relationship here. Before, when they kissed, it didn’t get much of a response from either of them. But this time, upon Livi’s gratitude at the sister’s thoughts to clear the skies just for him, she kisses him, but this time, both of them are noticeably stunned from the emotions brought forth from the kiss. While Livi looks like he has third degree sunburn, Nike has a much cuter blush.

We didn’t get much of a preview for the next episode, so I can only say that our new Jealous Boyfriend is going to wreck havoc next episode, so here’s hoping for a dozy.
