Now THIS is what it’s all about. THESE episodes are why I freaking adore this series as I do.
It seems our troubles with Loki aren’t over, and a 10 people party is selected to fight against him. From Rias’ party, we have Rias, Issei, Xenovia, Akeno, Koneko and Kiba. We have Sona and her vice president, Tsubaki, along with her pawn, Saji, and the reincarnated angel and Rossweisse the Valkyrie. They are teleported to where Loki is, and the battle begins. Koneko unlocks her sage arts powers (YAY!) and Akeno embraces her own powers as a fallen angel to cast holy lightning. Fenrir and mini-Fenrir’s Hati and Skool are brought to the battle, as well as Midgard. The fight is brought to a standstill with the arrival of Mjölnir, the giant hammer that will bring Loki’s end. As Issei rushes to grab it, as only he is strong enough to wield it, he is bitten by Fenrir and seemingly killed. All of Rias’ house members are distraught, but not as much as Rias seems to be. The episode concludes with her energy billowing out from her…
Episodes like this, with more plot than anything are so fantastic, and this season has been chock full of them so far. Nearly every single episode has been so great, and this episode is no different.
Seeing Koneko be so cute around Issei was a nice change of pace. It seems as though Akeno might be right in that he might’ve finally stolen her heart, or at least gained her approval in some way. I very much doubt she will stop being disgusted when his lecherous nature comes out.
Learning more about Sona was nice, too. The fact that she wants to start a school for underprivileged devils to participate in rating games is really nice to see, especially that Saji seems to be following Sona for more than simple reasons.
The summoning of the monsters was a nice nod to the mythology. Even with Loki’s weird ass design, I like how they’re pushing forward with it all.
The ending of the episode with Rias’s explosion…. I’m so pumped to find out what happens next. Loki is either a dead man or a very defeated man, that’s for sure. Seeing everyone’s new powers was fantastic – it was the flavour I was missing from the last episode. Tsubaki’s Mirror Alice sacred gear is pretty neat, too, and certainly proves to come in handy this time.
We also get confirmation on Irina having been reincarnated as an angel rather than her being human. I knew this prior, but the reveal was certainly nice. I liked seeing her new powers, as well as seeing Saji’s dragon upgrades. They certainly surprised Loki!
Though, the big one here was certainly Koneko accepting her sage arts powers, as well as Akeno accepting her fallen angel side and casting holy lightning. Both of those were so great to see, and I can’t wait to see what comes next.
